The Superman reboot thing

August 31, 2008

I was probably going to make this longer, but I figured it’s about time I posted something. Anyway, Warner Bros. has announced they’re going to be rebooting the Superman film franchise, saying that Superman Returns didn’t do as well as they wanted it to.

Okay. Makes sense.

But they also say they want to focus on making darker superhero movies, INCLUDING Superman.

All I have to say is: “What?!”

Weekly Recommendations for August 27th, 2008

August 26, 2008

AA has performed admirably in my stead, and I welcome his probably equally funny or more funny follow up post, but Spiffy’s back. And you know what that means: I actually categorize my posts.

Read on for mediocre witticisms.

Spiffy Speaks…ONCE AGAIN: Reviews for 8/13 and 8/20

August 25, 2008

I’ve drank face since I got into college on Thursday, and that warm fuzzy feeling in my head is the perfect backdrop for reading comics, and then writing about them. It’s about damn time I caught up here, because while AA probably loves running a one man show, he’s just not very good at it.

Read on for awesome. And soak it in, because without internet at my house until September 10th, spiffy’s going to be a rarity.

Arther Sudyum’s Moon Knight cover (for #21) wins best of the week, narrowly beating Alex Ross’ Batman. Yeah, I like it that much, even if it was misleading.

Just keep swimming: 8/20/08 Recommendations

August 25, 2008

More comics? Seems like there’s a new batch coming out every week. Here are some notable ones from last Wednesday.

AA’s Judgment: Comics of 8/13/08

August 23, 2008

It’s a sad state of affairs when I, of all people, am the “active” one. Still, read on for reviews of books from 10 days ago.

Hey kids, a blog post! 8/13 Comics Recommendations

August 18, 2008

So, Spiffy is out on a cross-country trek, no doubt getting into all sorts of crazy shenanigans. I was supposed to watch his fantasy team, but then I lost Internet until today, so not only did I not do that, I didn’t take charge of giving this place some new content. Supposedly Goki is back and lurking around, but I won’t believe it until I see a new psot from him.

But anyway, I’ll hijack Spiff’s weekly column and do a quick rundown of what came out four days ago (we’re awesome!). Hopefully, I can finish reading my books and post my review tomorrow (Monday), but don’t count on it. So here you have a breakdown of notable comics that came out this past week, though the week was perhaps more notable for what didn’t come out. Read on, but don’t expect any humor. At all.

Spiffy Speaks: Recommendations for 8/6/08

August 12, 2008

August begins on an¬†interesting foot. This week features two titles that I’m getting back into after reading earlier issues of the still young titles, three high profile mini series events (one being arguably the biggest in all comicdom) and last month’s issue of the most popular bug in comics. And all of them have something to do with time travel.

And, just so you know, Invincible Iron Man #4’s cover, by Gabrielle Dell Otto wins best cover, although Final Crisis #3 was a close second. Sadly, this is the only mention of Iron Man for this week, as I have to wait for the second printing of #3 to catch up with the title.

AA’s Judgment: Comic for 8/6/08

August 11, 2008

That’s not a typo in the title; I actually only have one comic to review for you this week. I bought three, but am holding off on reading the other two until I get caught up on the books (see the Weekly Recommendations e-mail for details). That just leaves me one issue to judge, so this week’s edition will be a quickie.

August Begins: 8/6 Recommendations

August 8, 2008

Sorry I’m late, it’s been a busy couple of days, and it’s only going to get harder and harder to do these. From now on I’m going to shoot on posting these Tuesday, which makes more sense because you get to read it BEFORE the store, and with the earlier time, if I’m a day late, it still holds merit being posted on a Wednesday. Of course, with Goki around, I could post this next week and he still wouldn’t have gone to the shop (this is even when he’s in the country). Read on for some hot stuff.

AA’s Judgment: Comics of 7/30/08

August 5, 2008

As with Spiffy, this was a tiny week for me, but it was a week of quality over quantity. Next week looks small too, so maybe I should be using this to experiment with more weird titles. But for now, here’s what I thought of the two books I bought this week. Both were written by Geoff Johns; try to guess who writer of the week will be.
